Long Island St.Thomas Orthodox Church has not been declared a Cathedral

New York : H.G.Zachariah Mar Nicolovas Metropolitan said that the Long Island St.Thomas Orthodox Church has not been declared as cathedral. The reports saying that this parish has been declared as the first cathedral of the diocese is baseless. There are various criteria to be fulfilled before changing a church to a cathedral. Just because a church has been renovated and consecrated it can not be declared a cathedral. The consecration of the Long Island Church has been conducted by H.H.Baselious Marthoma Paulose II Catholicose, but then this has not been raised as a cathedral. His Grace said that there were reports that the diocese metropolitan has declared the parish as a cathedral, and this statement is to make the world know the truth.
